These various forms of activism are evidence of past efforts to bring queer life into the public sphere in the name of increasing the rights and safety of queer people. These materials include a letter writing campaign card created by an organization called Lesbian and Gay Rights Nova Scotia (LGRNS), protest buttons calling out a homophobic local politician named Roxanne Skok, a collaged newspaper clipping depicting a theatrical protest referred to as "Gay Jeopardy", and a newsletter from a national organization, Equality for Gays and Lesbians Everywhere (EGALE), reporting human rights successes such as the first decision from Canada’s top court to hold that the exclusion of same-sex couples from the definition of common law spouses violated the Charter’s equality provisions.
