This window display holds an assortment of queer ephemra: Old issues of the GAEZETTE/WAYVES (a queer publication circa 1988) which includes Personals ads, Mister Atlantic Leather Competition (MAC) pins, and Halifax 2SLGBTQIA+ buttons (past and present). It is a celebratory collection that looks at various queer sub-cultures in its vast, sweet, playful, and erotic historical elements. However, despite the ways in which we have creatively fostered community the queer community has historically and continues to exclude and erase BIPOC, trans, disabled, fat, poor, and neurodivergent queers. We hope by displaying old and new buttons alongside each other we can acknowledge our important histories while looking to better futures that recognize all 2SLGBTQIA+ people.
