PRIDE BUTTONS and MATERIALS

Halifax Central Public Library

5440 Spring Garden Road, Halifax, NS.

This video is made of scans from Halifax Pride 1991 planning documents and various pins documenting the Pride March's long standing existence in Nova Scotia. While homosexuality was believed to be completley decriminalized in 1969, it was only partial, with charges of gross indecency occurring and even escalating after this date. In 2020, Pride celebrations can feel like a given; these documents remind us that current Pride activities have a legacy underneath their current corporate manifestation. They also remind us that our community's resilience is far reaching, practised, and cared for.
